Panjab University: Nod to entrance for MA economics

The Panjab University syndicate on Monday gave nod to introduce an entrance test for MA economics from the 2019-20 session. However, the syndicate has decided that the syllabus for the entrance test should be based on the course content of BA economics (elective).
An academic and administrative committee of the economics department had recommended that the syllabus of the entrance test be based on the course content provided in BA honours economics/ BA honours (under CBCS scheme)/ economics (elective). However, syndicate member Prof Rajesh Gill said the syllabus should be as per economics (elective) so that more students get the opportunity to appear for the entrance test.

The committee had also recommended that the entrance test should include questions pertaining to various aspects of economics including microeconomics, macroeconomics, Indian economy, economics growth, development and planning, mathematics and statistics, econometrics, applied economics and logical reasoning. The entrance test will have 10 questions from each of these topics. Now that the syndicate has decided that the syllabus of the entrance test will be reviewed, this will also have to be revisited. The syndicate also decided that the question paper won’t be prepared by externals as the same would incur a lot of cost to the university.

Now, the recommendations of the committees will go back to the department which will have to revisit their recommendations and send a modified version of the same to the syndicate for approval.
