Telangana government has launched Hy-Fi the free WiFi project in Hyderabad on Tuesday in order to develop it into a smarter city. The internet Hy-Fi project will deliver free high speed internet to citizens across the city with the help of 3000 Hotspots. A user will be provided 30 minutes of free internet at a speed of up to 10 mbps
This is a first of its kind project where a whole city is enabled with free high speed internet, It ministry was working on implementation of Hy-Fi project from last years. The free internet in Hyderabad not only help residents but also a large number of tourists who visit Hyderabad. The Telangana government is add more hotspots as per the requirement and will replicate the project in other cities of Telangana as well.
Currently on 1000 hotspots are available for free Hy-Fi access another 2000 hotspots will be added in next 2-3 months. The cost of free wi-fi project launched in Hyderabad is Rs 300 crore which is invested by the industries. The pilot version of Hyderabad City WiFi project was launched in June 2015 under the Digital Telangana project. In the coming years free wifi project in Telangana will be extended to Karimnagar, Warangal and Khammam districts.
The various project partners are Indus Towers which has the job to create infrastructure for the project, Airtel, BSNL and Act Fibernet will provide connectivity while Atria Convergence Technologies is there to bridge the last mile gap.
