Chandrababu Naidu Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh today launched Vana Mahotsavam 2017 in the state, Naidu also announced that Vrukhsh Mitra Awards will be presented to those taking part in tree plantation drive in Andha Pradesh. During the Vana Mahotsavam 2017 in Andhra Pradesh 26 crore trees will be planted with the support of AP Forest Department in the coming year.
Highlights of Vana Mahotsavam 2017 :
- The greenery will be increased to 50 percent from current 23 percent by the year 2029
- Presentation of Vruksh Mitra awards who ke part in tree plantation drive and take measures to protect trees
Naidu urged officials to plant saplings at government offices, schools, colleges, factories, roads etc and also said he will inspect government schools and offices from time to time to check if the officials are taking up the move seriously. He further said everybody should plant trees on the occasion of marriages, birthdays and other auspicious occasions, If there is a need to remove a tree it must be ensured that one sapling is planted and taken care of.
Andhra Pradesh government will also set up tree banks which will supply saplings to people who wish to raising plants. Uttar Pradesh government is also organizing similar event called Van Mahotsav 2017 from 1 July to 7 July 2017.
